Muscle fatigue, fatigue generally, loss of appetite, hoarseness, swelling of the tongue, regular nausea. I stopped taking cold after three weeks. I called my doctor to ask about any problems by stopping cold and never even got a call back.
I have a rash that covers my legs, abdomen, chest, arms, shoulders, back and thighs. It appears as red blotches and red pimple like. They did not itch for the first few months, but now do. I have used every cream available and have been to 4 derms and 1 allergist. I have been taking Simvastatin and Tricor. It seems like the rash started about the time I started the Simvastatin. Prior to that I took Zetia for several years. The rash does not cover the face, hands of feet. Do any of you have this rash? Thanks, Mike
Simvastatin: Excruciating muscle pain, mainly in back but compromising movement in any part of body and making sleep its own nightmare. Started about one year into treatment; lasted one month until I realized the cause was simvastatin rather than a new medical condition. Disappeared gradually after abandoning simvastatin, now completely gone. It is my belief that manufacturers fail to provide sufficient warning. Simply stating “may cause muscle pain” on label does not describe the degree and nature of the pain enough to alert patients as to the cause of this unusual affliction.
Zocor side efefcts for me: Muscle pains (shoulder, thighs, back, calves, hips and shin bones), peripheral neuropathy in feet, slight numbness in tongue and lips, wrist soreness, balance problems, fatigue. Went for an easy hike and ended up in agony on Feb. 8, 2009. Called Dr. who ordered a CPK (Creatine phospokinase)blood test. Spec is less than 173, mine was 247. Doctor ordered me to cut Zocor from 40 mg a day to 20 mg. I did not tell him (he is pill pusher that I had stopped Zocor on Feb.8. It’s been five days now and my muscles don’t hurt as bad; the peripheral neuropathy in my feet is gone at night but comes back in the day but less than what it was. I was on simvastatin (Zocor) for 2 1/2 months or so but did not take it every day. I have come to believe that many Drs. are pill pushers for Big Pharma.
I have Diabetes II and my cholesterol reading was 160. I have now switched to a cholesterol reducing diet and seem to be making progess also in reducing my glucose readings.
I encourage all to challenge Drs advice by first doing your homework. I won’t be going back to him as he gets pissed off if you don’t do what he wants. There are other Drs. who may not be as paranoid about cholesterol.
Have used COQ10 recently to help myself as statin use robs the body of the COQ10.
I am a 70 year old who takes Simvastatin and also likes hill-walking. I have had moderate/severe muscle pains since training for, and then during a hill-walking holiday in Madeira, which is not settling after 3 weeks. Does energetic exercise make muscle problems more likely?
