i have terrible back and leg pain, would that be a side effect
I was diagnosed with H. Pylori following a postive biopsy. The diagnosed after a complaint of a series of heartburn. After the endscopy, I was prescribe to take Neuxim and Carafate. A week later after the result of the biospy was released, PREVPAC was prescribe. I started get some side effect after three days on this drug. I have funny taste in my mouth, diarrhea, irregular heat beat which centered most under my left chest . The worse of the side effect is irregular heat beat. My pulse rate of as of yesterday was 103 bpm. Also for the past 3 days since I started taking this medication, I been feeling run down, slight fatigue. and some time dizziness I feel anxiety especially when my heart started beating real fast. The heartburn seems to disappear but it has been replaced my irregular heart beat and my stomach worse. A friend advise me to take fish oil (Omega-3) to control my heart beat. Doctors, I need your help.. I am getting worse than before.. Can I stop taking the medicine?

I am on Day 3 of Prevpac and my side effects are only 2:
strange taste in my mouth. I drank some water and thought it was contaminated with YUCK!
I am also very tired. I could nap at any point.
Wanted to know from others when their symptoms got better. How many days on their drugs?

I started taking Prevpac 2 days ago and I have a bitter,nasty taste in my mouth and can’t sleep.I also have had headaches and when I eat I feel really full,but if I don’t I feel hunger pains this is so weird.
I am on day 10 of prevpac and my bladder is going crazy along with my intestines. I have been using florastor 2 times in the am and once in the pm and it has controlled any diarrhea but it gives me terrible gas. I ache all over and my heart is racing very fast; in fact, I’ve already had tacchycardia all my life which is worsened by the prevpac. The worst thing is my stomach is so swollen and distended but it was even prior to starting the meds. I will go to get my urine tested today and get regular blood work to see if any organs are being involved. I think that the insomnia and dizziness with bad gtaste in mouth are bad too. I also can’t eat very much since my stomach was so inflamed.
help, prevpac leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and feel worst than before?
its my 1st day taking the meds (on my pm doses now)
i have to take 4 pills in the morning and 4 in the evening.
the problem i have is that it leaves a very bitter TASTE* in my mouth and it bothers me so much that i cant sleep. i consumed so much candy to get rid of the taste. what should i do? does this go away eventually? im scared that i might lose my sense of taste and im taking so much sugar coz i just cant stand the taste. it stays for hours. help it really bothers me so much and now im feeling all the bad side effects, i really wanna stop taking it but my left side is hurting me for a week now. i went to the doctor and did some urine and blood test. my doctor prescribe me the prevpac and i hate it, what should i do. i cant sleep and i feel so much worst. can i stop taking this prevpac? how long do i have to suffer this nasty bitter taste in my mouth?
DO NOT TAKE PREVPAC. It is for your own good. I took one course of this garbage and right now looking for a good lawyer. There were no side effects while taking it but after two weeks passed I started having pain in my lower back and pelvis area. It is being more than a year, I took many different probiotics, went through many tests to determine the cause of the pain(with no success). I have never had any problems before taking prevpac.
Scary. I have finished 2 and holding up so far. Taking florstar, plain dannon yoghurt, water, culturelle and align. The doc only prescribed align. This thing is really heavy.

I’ve had a really bad taste in my mouth as well. I started taking the meds 2 days ago. Chewing gum takes away the taste and helps with the burning as well!!!! I would like to know how soon the pain starts to subside after taking the meds?
woohoo! I am done. think the probiotics and florastor did a great job. But I avoided sugar in milk and no candies as I read somewhere that it might actually help the bad guys.
a good thing came out of this ordeal, I am not having the pain I used to have before the treatment. hope it lasts.
actually, I noticed that towards the end, the bad taste didn’t seem that much as in the start.
I took the 8 pills for 2 day but on my third day when I took my pm dose I felt so bad, like I was going to faint and/or throw up…I’m now only taking the am dose and I’m not even sure if it is going to work taking it this way…I too have the horrible taste in my mouth…(yuck) and feel very tired????????????/

I have been diagnosed with a Gastric Malt Lympoma and have been on the prevpac for 12 day. I have many of the cited side effects but by far thw worst is itchy skin all over my body and dont think I can do the next 2 days.. Anyone wit a similar experience

I am currently taking the PREVPAC for H. Pylori/ Ulcer. I am on Day 2, however, on day one I just took a.m. and on today just took p.m.
I do have the bitter nasty taste in my mouth, but that isn’t bothering me as bad as the severe pain it is giving me in my stomach. Also, I feel like my stomach is swollen or something now. I fell weak, nauseated, hungry, and definitely like I have an over active G.I. tract. This medicine sucks, flat out. I need some alternative. I am experiencing too many side effects and I have never EVER reacted to any kind of medicine. Anyone know of a different way to battle this beast? I considered cutting the Biaxin in half and taking it 4x a day instead of such a large dose all at once. Help!
The metallic taste is the natural side effect of the Prevpac… I had that, the nausea, the pain, the digestive side effects when I took the Prevpac last summer. I talked to my doctor about it and they recommended taking Pepto Bismal capsules with every dose, which helped a little. And the symptoms ebbed for me around day 5. Good luck! I treatment failed on the Prevpac and currently am doing a higher dose treatment.
Im on the pm dose of prevpac, day 1….i dont really have the bad taste in my mouth, only for a few minutes after taking it….right nnow the worst is nausea and fatigue…along with body aches…how could this be normal?? I feel so rundown i have no energy for nothing! What is the success rate on this nightmare medication????
Difficult medicine to take, so far extremely tired, anxious, blotchy itchy skin, diarrhea, bloated stomach. I have only been on medication for three days.What next, it better get rid of the bad guys, as I want so much to feel better.
I just started taking the Prevpac about 3 hours ago..from all of the comments..im kind of scared now..i dont like feeling those symptoms and I have been feeling that every since I first got sick..I hope this works. I have been drinking lots of water and chewing gum..so far..no bad taste..only nausea and I am extremely tired…any else finish the full 14 days…?

I’m on my 3rd day of prevpac and yes it does make you feel a bit yucky. The first day was the worse because I felt sluggish, nausea , sleepy , full and nasty taste in my mouth. On second day it seemed a little better not nausea anymore but still keep a lot and of course nasty tasty in mouth. I found that if not fat oatmeal with first set of pill its better on stomach and be sure to have small meals and after every meal have a activia yogurt. This is what works for me, its a miserable feeling to go through but it has to be done. I hope this h pylorI clears up after this round cause I don’t like to take medicine but I to in this case. Has anybody been cleared after 14day and if so has the recover been great.
I took the whole course and finished a week ago. I had few side affects. But now I feel dizzy most of the time & my body feels like I am going through drug withdrawals. Is it nomad after the fact? How long will it last?
I have also finished my 14 day supply of Prevpac (2 days ago)with minimum side effects (mostly diarrhea and awful taste in mouth). Now i’m experiencing heart palputations and withdrawal symptoms. Anyone else experiencing the heart palputations?
i m on the pm dose day 13,i ll take the last 8 but have very strong headacke and backacke,couldn t finich my job this night,i was very tired ,i m scared about taking the last dose.its a very bad medication but i hope it will kill the resistante bug.

I was diagnosed with H. Pylori and started taking Prevpac 5 days ago, i’m on day 4 because I missed a day. The side effects i’m experiencing are nausea (most of the time), irregular heart beat, bitter taste in mouth sometimes, diarrhea, headache, dizziness when getting up and fatigue.
I am also having trouble sleeping because of the nausea and racing heart beat. (haven’t slept for 24 hours).
I really really want to stop this right now, but I know I have to stick to the end because I want to cure the infection. I do not want to feel like bloating for the rest of my life!!!!!
Since I cannot sleep and my boyfriend is snoring so loud next to me, I’ve been researching for methods to relief the side effect for the past 40mins.
In summary:
1. drink a lots of water after taking the meds
2. eat lots of yogurt and kefir to restore the homeostasis in the stomach. The meds are killing all the good bacteria at the same time!
3. pepto-biosmal
4. keep working or find something to distract yourself.

I have two more days left on the prevpac. The first few days was horrible,bad taste, bloating, irregular heart beat, and pelvic pain. The sleepless nights were about to kill me, but I eat small meals and drink a lot of water. I constantly chew gum and mints. I wouldnt wish this on anyone, it totally sucks. Good luck to those of you who take it.
I am only 16 and had to go on prevpac for h. pylori. I have been on it for 2 days now and am totally MISERABLE. I have WORSE stomach and abdominal pain than the infection itself caused. I have a constant headache, bad taste in my mouth and my heart keeps racing when I do even light physical activity (stairs). This is a horrible experience and don’t know if I am going to be able to make it the 2 weeks.
I might be one of the few elephants in the room, but my treatment is going well.
My husband was first diagnosed by a blood test. I had the breath test, which my DR preferred. I could be because after the treatment, you will still have antibodies in your blood, giving a false positive.
My only complaints are,
One: the price. I had the fancy PrevPac pack and my deductible was $129!!!! My husband did not have the pack, but the same pills in bottles, and paid almost nothing as deductible.
Two: Low energy an a lot of sleeping and yawning.
Three: a very mild diarrhea. That’s it.
No pain, no nausea, I can eat what I want, no headache.
I hope this kills that bug. My husband if feeling great after the treatment, but he still needs a rule out of the infection.
One thing I am sure I want to do as soon as I finish the treatment is to take probiotics to replenish my flora.
why do i have chills
I have just revelry took the PREV PAC to treat H.pylori. I had the 14 day treatment. However the 1st week was a little hard to get by with all the nasty dry mouth taste, dizziness, headaches, consent trips to the bathroom, and constant hunger/ stomach pains. I would suggest to constantly have a snack on hand for when your stomach feels like it needs food. The worst part of this treatment was when I woke up the ninth day feeling more weak, and sicker than usual. I thought maybe it was just that day I continued to take the pills. The next day was about the same I had to lay around an try not to throw up even though nothing seemed to stay in my body it was just being flushed out. I did not complete the pact due to the 11th day I woke up the worst; throwing up those pills are the worst feeling ever dry mouth taste has nothing compared to it. I had three days left I did not finish. I will say it has now been 4 days since I took the pills feeling a tad better but I’m still feeling as if the pills have yet to completely dissolve from my system.
I am on day 6 of the PrePac and like everyone else I am feeling awful!!! I have a horrble metally taste in my mouth that will not go away. About 15 minutes after taking each dosage I have the chills for about an hour. I am tired and cant sleep because of the taste in my mouth, I am also urinating frequently and I am having panic attacks. I was diagnosed with H. Pylori by a biopsy but I had no pains before in my instestine area. I had an endoscopy done because I had a pain in my back on the right side and they cant figure out what it is. The medication has not stopped the pain, I think it has increased it and I am miserable and I am greatly debating on whether to stop taking the medicine!!! Plus all of these stories that I am reading are freaking me out.
Day 7 of PREVPAC:
Day 6 was the worst but after a terrible bout of diarhea last night-I think I actually feel better.
I slept thru the night only a small amount of bad taste in my mouth. This morning I dont have as bad of taste in my mouth but extremely hungry. Maybe all the infection got washed out of me. Lets hope. Fingers crossed that the day keeps going good, yesterday I thought I would have to stop taking the medicine. Actually not as tired today either.
Day 8 of PREVPAC
Yesterday was pretty good until I went to bed. Woke up in the middle of the night with my heart racing-this last about an 1 before I could go back to sleep. Nausia in the morning until I chewed some mint gum. Now my stomachs growling like crazy and I’m starving. Taste in mouth not too bad. Not sure if anyone else has this feeling but my teeth feel so clean and soft since taking the medicine. Hmmmm. Wish me luck for the rest of the day.
Prevpac 4th day,
I’m going damn…got most of the symptoms listed by u guys. first 2 days went relatively ok. 4th day was horrible. metallic taste persisted longer and nastier. The acid reflux is worse though the stomach distention and discomfort in the upper stomach got better. I ‘m planning to call my doctor on Monday and see if there is any alternative for the regimen especailly the biaxin (antibiotic). I dont have increased heart rate but am not sure if Icanbrave this for 10 more days. Good luck ppl
I have been on the PREVPAC for 4 days now. I can’t stand the nasty taste in my mouth from the biaxin. For the passed day I have totally cut out the biaxin and plan on calling my doctor tomorrrow for see if there is an alternative. If anyone knows if there is an alternative medication for biaxin please let me know! That taste is killing me!!
I just started the PREVPAC today & my Dr told me yesterday I was going to feel MISURABLE for the next 2 weeks & I could not skip one pill or I would have to start the whole process over. Right now I already had some diarrhea (that’s almost normal for me anyway) I feel tired, nauseous, & I do have a lil’ funny taste in my mouth. I am definitely going to get some yogurt & am so glad I am reading this stuff on here, I have already learned so much.
On Day 2 & woke up this morning throwing up some nasty bitter stuff, got over that, then after I took the Medicine, started feeling sick on my stomach & had Diarrhea a few times, after that, I started feeling dizzy, tired, headaches on & off & just really nauseous. I’ve been eating satine crackers & ice. Ate some yogurt this morning & I’m going to continue to eat atleast 2 cups a day. I haven’t been experiencing too many side effects at night & I hope it stays like that. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better & I will continue to feel better & not worse!!!
DAY 3 – SICK in the morning, throwing up a lot, feeling extremely RUN-DOWN & tired, no appetite, forced myelf to eat. Felt better in the evening.
DAY 4 – Throwing up in the morning, still feeling tired with no appetite. Felt better in the evening.
DAY 5 – Woke up not sick this morning, I think my body is finally getting used to this medicine, still no appetite, however feeling better, my mouth feels funny & have a couple of sores in it.
Unfortunately I am an expert on this… First rd of treatment was similar to Prevpak, but it either wasn’t successful or H. Pylori simply reoccurred. The second rd, about 2 years ago also wasn’t successful. So now I am trying the Prevpak. During those times, and for this current, I found a probiotic that greatly reduces the nastier side effects, Acidophilus Pearls. These pills are super coated to survive the stomach then release in the intestine. Search Amazon for them… they will save you a lot of pain.
Sigh, just swallowed the 1st pm doseage, will checkin in 2 weeks…ugh
update: been on it 3 daze now… Most serious side effects avoided. Have been taking the coated probiotics twice daily. Anybody taking PrevPak really needs to do this. Most serious side effect is headaches. Since this is an ulcer type treatment, have avoided aspirin. I am eating a handful of fresh cherries, it nearly eliminates the headaches. Other than that, feel quite good.
Those unfortunate ppl above forgot rule #1 when taking antibiotics: YOU MUST KEEP EATING, ELSE THIS CARP STAGNATES, AND INTENSIFIES. Rule #2: Plan on buying a bunch of probiotics.

The worst medicines I’ve ever taken. Just hope my body gets used to it and the disconfort will go away soon
update: only a few more days left, can’t say I feel good anymore, fatigued, headaches, no diarrhea though. Feel sleepy most the time, sleep poorly when I do sleep.

I had the treatment and felt nothing. it cured me from the H.Pylori. The symptoms of the H.Pylori was horrible. I thought i had lung cancer, or something worse… the only bad thing that happened after taking the Prevpac (i don’t know if anything related though)i had something called Mucoceles of the appendix (rare disease of appendix). Had to have a surgery to remove it 10x4x5. very scary… doctors didnt even know what i had until they opened me. Good luck everyone!!!
Just started day 4. Having to use bathroom lot’s but no diarrhea. Metal taste in mouth and sometimes bad taste. On first day had heart palpitations but nothing since. Biggest complaint is the gas I have, I can’t go to work because it is so bad, if I try to hold in the pain is unbearable. I have the right side pain, but actually had it before even starting PrevPac. I have found some information on this site as well as a couple others that the doctor failed to mention. I want to tank all of you for that. Good luck with everything you have going on.
I’m on day 2 of the same medication (we don’t have prevpac in the UK and just take the generic forms.) So far have had sight unpleasant metallic taste in mouth, fast heartbeat which seems to come around 3 hours after taking the pills and subsides around 2 hours later, and the hunger pains. Nothing too unbearable.
I would say to anyone about to start the medication who is being put off by all the bad comments, don’t let it worry you. Not everyone has the same reactions to every drug and remember – people with mild/no side effects won’t bother looking for discussion forums to find information, but people having problems will. So you get a really pessimistic view of every drug.
Been taking prevpac for 24 hours. Feel a lot more anxiety, terrible taste in my mouth, weak, sleepy but had trouble sleeping. Seems like I am not the only one so I will continue to take this. Glad this isn’t that out of the ordinary.
Day 1 of prevpac and I can’t stand my stomach. It feels all jumbled up and my back/side pains are still there. Not only that, but my breastbone also hurts. Maybe it’s the acid reflex? Doctor referred me to a mental & behavioral specialist for my anxiety, and I also might have IBS. Thank God my doctor also gave me 30 pills for nausea/vomiting. Haven’t tried them yet because I don’t want to waste and after reading all the feedback I guess empty stomach/nausea is a side effect. Thank you all! Please keep posting I love knowing I’m not alone.
This is my 2nd go-round with the prevpac. I did 10 days the 1st time for H pylori. I had the horrible taste I get that i haven’t read here is my lips were numb. After the 10 days, I felt awesome for 4 months. Then the H Pyliri came back. Now I’m on 14 days of it. On day 9 now. I have the stomach pain, gross taste, and the tingling lips. I had the worse headache of my life day 2 (could not get out of bed). No diarrhea.
I recommend a GOOD yogurt atleast 1 hr before or 2 hrs after the morning meds. (I eat it for lunch) It keeps the diarrhea away!
I was diagnosed with h pylori and was prescribed prevpac
. I didn’t feel the side effects. It worked great ! But after a month and half of completion , I feel like the symptoms are back again! I have a severe pain in my abdomen.
I have to do a follow up to check if the h-pylori reoccured.
I’m on day 12 of my PrevPac. I was fine the first day. Day 2 – 5, I had a horrible headache, stomach ache and nausea. The bad taste started around that time too, and is still here. Thankfully all other side effects went away. I have had a couple of hot flashes out of the blue, otherwise – I FEEL GREAT. Have been sick for 5 years, and this is the greatest I’ve felt in over 2 years, and I’m not even done with the pills. I hope this continues. The bad taste is worth getting my life back. Unbelievable how quickly it works! I was only diagnosed after getting a scope for my Eosinophilic Esophagitis. They found some ulcers in my stomach and did biopsies. They said I likely have had the H Pylori flare up for several years (I had been mis-diagnosed with EE, Chron’s, Celiac, Cushings, etc.) I should mention that my pants are fitting tight since starting the meds. I’m guessing there’s weight gain associated since it’s such a high dose of antibiotics? Not entirely sure.
I didn’t read up on the pssible side effects of taking the Prevpac sometimes just reading the side effects a given medicine predisposes you to experincing the side effects based on what has been read. I just finished my last dose of prevpac. THANK GOD! The nausea, throwing up, lack of appetit, awful taste in my mouth, tiredness and chills were extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable at best. Those side effects at least were marginally bearable, uncomfortable and annoying. They compared in no way to the SEVERE sharp back pain and leg and foot cramps, spasms and numbness. These side effects were EXTREMELY painful and were SEVERE enough to tears running down my face. After reading everyone’s comments, I too hope the Prevpac treatment gets rid of the H. Pyloric because if it doesn’t, I don’t know if I could repeat the treatment or increase the dose due to the EXTREMELY PAINFUL side effects. I took the 4 pills every 12 hours for 14 days.
Day 1-no sypmtoms, but since antibiotics always give me diarrhea, I started probiotics (Bio-K plus) 2x day, 1/2 bottle at noon and 1/2 bottle at ten prior to going to bed.
Day 2-bad taste in mouth, but otherwise ok. At bedtime intestines started making warning gurgles and slight nausea.
Day 3-bad taste, felt ok, got up and suddenly had to spend 30 minutes in bathroom with near-constant diarrhea. So much for probiotics. I wasn’t going to eat but saw post that said: eat!, so made a protein shake with coffee and eggnog. At least it tastes good and has extra fluids. I am worried–tomorrow is Monday and I have to go to work!
Day 4–still severe diarrhea, finally got hold of doctor and she said OK to take immodium. Much better after. Got acidophilus pearls. Now taking Bio-K, Florestore, and pearls 3 x daily: early am an hour before antibiotic; noon; and bedtime.
Day 5-7–able to return to work. Only side effects were cottonmouth during the day and bad mouth taste at night. A drink of water at night helped that a lot. Itching all over face, neck, and trunk, but mild and no rash.
First, the pills taste terrible.
On day 1, I got a tingling burn in stomach, more gas, and nausea.
Drinking water constantly, and eating snacks between meals helped.
In the days that followed, I learned to take other meds midday. Not good to take anything at the same time of prevpac.
Had trouble sleeping because I kept waking up with that bile taste in my mouth.
That got better when I made sure to take the prevpac at least 2 hours before bed.
Still got the taste when I woke up, but at least I could sleep through the night.
In the days that followed, I had loose stool, but no diarrhea. Just alot more gas, and occasional taste in mouth throughout the day.
On day 7. I got a really bad flu. I don’t know if it’s related to the prevpac or not, though. Doctor said I could take cold medicine, but it’s not helping much. I feel like my immune system’s just not the same. I’ve never gotten this sick so fast before. It’s scaring me, and I don’t know if I can finish the next week of treatment.
Anyone else feel like the pac weakened their immune system?
On day 3 of taking this med and I’m having alot of the same side effects as most. But it seems things are getting alot easier other than I’m having a hard time sleeping at night.
I think the key to taking this med is to make sure you are eating and staying hydrated. I noticed that I have no appetite
I was diagnosed with hPylori/ulcer. Have no idea how long I have had it. The doctor prescibed the prevpac and I finished my last dose 1/16/12. I read all of these posts prior to taking the meds and the doctor said I could wait till after the holidays because I didn’t want to have any side effects and ruin my time off. I was scared to death. I did experience the weird taste after a few days, but also noticed my anxiety was a little worse and had a hard time sleeping. I am now 3 days off and I have some of the stomach pains I felt before. I did take a really good probiotic 3days after starting it and that really seemed to help. I did have a couple occasions of heart racing but I’ve been dealing with heart palpitations now for the last year and a half. All in all, I really didnt have a horrible experience with it, I felt pretty decent but I certainly dont want to have to take it again…Won’t know till February if it worked. Going to try some holistic things to see if that will help
On day 1 is usually the worst…had Diarrhea and the worst dizziness and stomach cramps ever
Day 2…felt SEVERLY bloated. Could eat… without feeling like I was going to explode…the dizziness and Diarrhea still there.
Day 3 & 4 dizziness got worse and so did the bloating. No diarrhea
Day 5… bloating getting better was finally able to eat. Dizzy though so bad i can’t drive.
