53 yrs.old, 125 lb. female, otherwise healthy and active person (non-smoker, good fitness level, active, eats healthy food, no underlying health issues)diagnosed with hypertension in Feb./08 Prescribed Marcardis Plus initially for the first 3 mos. Side-effects included: headaches, dizziness, extreme fatigue, joint and muscle aches and pains, depression, urinating every 30 mins, VERY thirsty all the time. Afer being on this med. for about 3 mos. my ankles started to swell up and I was getting a very nasty dark red/purple rash from my ankles to my thighs. Doctor prescribed my condition as an extreme allergic reaction to the meds. and changed my prescription from Micardis Plus to the straight Micardis (without the diuretic component). Since being on the straight Micardis (no diuretic), the side-effects have certainly decreased in severity, but I am still plagued with tingling headaches every day and periods of extreme fatigue. In addition, I have periods of having very little appetite, and occasional unexplained stomach upsets (gas, soft and frequent stools/bm’s), persistent joint and muscle aches and pains (particularly in my shoulders and neck area). I HATE taking this medication but am told that the benefits outweigh the risks…whoever said that has never been on this drup obviously!
I have been taking this drug for almost a month. I have two or three side effects. I’m on 80 miligram dosage. I have headaches, shortness of breath, coughing and sometimes backaches. I want to continue taking it for a month before I switch. I was also taking amlodipine and it made me sick as a dig throwing up and headaches. Both pills were prescribed to be taken together. I’m now on a water pill to replace the amlodipine.
