I took Mucinex for 10 days and my breathing was so bad I went to the Acute care center and told them I was unable to get any air. Also my tounge and lips were swollen. When nothing else seemed to be the problem we figured out the only new thing I took was Mucinex. When I stopped and took Benedryl my breathing became better and my head became clearer. I was on Mucinex 1200 mg. 2ce a day.
My elderly father is taking Mucinex and experiencing nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and blurred vision. After reading the side effects, I’m going to ask that he stop taking the medication and call his doctor. It may be that it’s effecting his blood pressure but they doctor will need to check him out.
I was taking mucinex DM for 1 day because I had a cough I could not get rid of. My husband had success with MucinexDM so he told me to take 2. I took 2 in the early morning and again at 2am. By about 3-330 am I was having labored breathing and could feel like my chest was being compressed like a water bottle. I stopped taking Mucinex and will be happier with the cough. Has anyone else had this reation?
I took MucinexDM last evening ( 1 1/2 tablets) when I woke up this morning, I yawned and felt like a had a spasm in my tongue. When I swallow it feels the same way, but a bit less. My tongue quivers. This is the only way I can explain it. Any ideas what’s going on? I feel dizzy too, and I felt a bit nauseous this morning when I woke up, but that has subsided a bit.
I took Mucinex extra strength. After about 6 hours my breathing became labored and my chest felt like it was being compressed. I also was nervous and restless. I stopped taking it and today I still have my cold but feel better without the mucinex. FDA approved? I have taken liquid cough medicines with guaifensin many times befor and have never experienced a side effect. dosage is to much. Expensive and dangerous..
Got severe headaches, dizziness, and nausea.
I took Mucinex DM 1200mg once at 10:30 pm and again at 10:30 am. By noon I wasn’t functional at all, I had severe loss of focus, my eyes were dilated, and I was really slow, on top of the usual side effects of being jittery and nauseous. Since my cough was so unbearable I took one more that evening at 10:30pm. It is now 1 o’clock my time and the same side effects have not worn off yet. Should I be worried?
I had taken this back in October 2008 and I felt immediately better and coughing all that stuff up. After about a week of it, I was shopping and suddenly felt weak, dizzy, broke out in a cold sweat and was so weak I considered calling 911. I sat down, recovered a bit, left my buggy and went got in my car until I recovered enough to drive myself home. Once home, I had to sit in the car for awhile before going in.. That scared the daylights out of me so the next morning, soon as my doctor opened, I was there. Sitting in the waiting room to be called to the back, it happened again. When they got me in the back, they found my blood pressure was HIGH! I am one of those who have had LOW blood pressure all my life. Didn’t take me but a minute to figure out what had caused this and that was the last time I took one!
We need to list this on askapatient.com
Took Mucinex as directed now can’t taste anything days after being on have a funny sensation in my head that will not go away almost like thunder rumbling…Has anyone else had this reaction.
I am recovering from a night in the hospital after using MUCINEX DM.I was using it for 4 days. Each time I took it I had dizziness, nausea and lightheadedness, as well as nervousness and nightmares. It was helping my congestion, so my husband insisted that I continue. I should have listened to my body. On the 4th day I took it went to sleep and woke up and felt like my airways were constricted, there was a tightness in my chest, I walked to the bathroom and passed out on the bathroom floor. My husband rushed me to the emergency room. It has been several hours since that happened and my eyes are still hurting, I’m still dizzy and I am still having visual disturbances, and jitteriness.
Why are you all taking Mucinex DM? I have had great success with the straight Muccinex, and I used to be prone to Sinus infections several times per year. I take it when I start to feel the congestion with plenty of water a couple of days and the stuff just drains out! It’s my miracle drug.
I am taking Mucinex DM because my cousin’s husband took it and was told it wouldn’t affect his blood pressure. This is the second time I’ve had to take it for a sinus infection…and it was recommended by a nurse in my doctor’s office.
Didn’t put the two together the first time and wasn’t sure until today. First time I took it my blood pressure was severly affected. I’ve had high blood pressure for 35 years…and I felt terrible. Thinking my neck was out, causing dizziness and feeling faint, I called the doctor…went in and had 96 / 50. I’ve never had it that low. They referred me and I went through several cardiac tests…finding nothing. Treadmill was normal.
Today when I experienced dizziness and felt like passing out it was at a local supermarket with a blood pressure cuff in the pharmacy. My blood pressure was 77 over 58 with a pulse rate of 103. Now I know the cause…only difference both times is the Mucinex.
Perhaps the side effects should be changed to include the blood pressure warning. It’s a good medicine and helps many. We just need to be more aware of what it might do to the body.
If this information helps even one person… it was time well spent writing…and I really appreciate the comments left by others. Thanks for the opportunity to leave a reply.
I have taken Mucinex extended release many times in the past and it really works. I also liked that I had no reaction from taking it… Till now. I was about 10 minutes from going to the emergency room at 4:30 AM, but found the extended side effects list online. I guess they can sneak up on you sometimes.
My roommate just took a tablet of Mucinex DM maximum strength for the first time right before bed last night and she woke up at about 3:00am feeling really warm, dizzy, and nauseous. Her arms were burning, so she ran them under cold water; she described it as a “sense of impending doom.” She woke me up so that she wouldn’t die alone, but I found this list and am convinced that it will blow over. The draining mucus is now a welcome alternative. Thanks for the help!
MY SON TOOK MUCINEX FOR A BAD COLD THREE MONTHS AGO, WHILE TAKING MUCINEX HE LOST HIS SENSE TO TASTE OR SMELL ANYTHING. HE SAYS EVERYTHING TASTE BURNT OR SMELLS BURNT OR SOURED. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS SIDE EFFECT.
