i’m not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but after about a week i have had stomach cramps and have had severe nasousness.
I had a similiar thing. After the first week i got my periods again and i got the implanon the day after my periods ended. it sucks balls. But your stomach cramps and the nesousness is cause by the introduction of extra hormones. the female body is designed to create the hormones it needs. implanon introduces new hormones. Its going to happen until you get used to it. if it doesn’t stop then go to the doctor. you should drink plenty of water and stay away from salty foods and just a bit healthier. Avoid sex for a couple weeks. I had to find that out the hard way. I started freaking out. turns out it gives you oedema in some cases. thats when your capillaries are a little damage and release fluids, i can tell you, it hurts. it made my vag lips swell and become all red. i have to go to the doctors for it. if you start burning in your vag area stop your sex imediately and check for swelling. even if its a little swollen just stop. it takes a couple hours to go down. but its just a build up of fluids. i hope my answer helps
Do you suffer from anxiety because of it? I ad mine in for over 2 yrs and it drove me mad..Its out now but still anxious…Any ideas why???
Hi,
I have had my implant in over 2 Years. The symptoms are terrible. I had constant headaches for 8 months and bled almost constantly for a year. My moodswings are terrible and that isnt me. I felt that sometimes i would feel like i was pregnant every month larger boobs, swollen tummy and really hungry. I also experience bad thrush with the swelling around the vagina also. The one said effect for me whihc is the most embarassing is the smell that comes from down below.
I’m so glad I found this site. I thought is was all in my head. I received my implant at my 6 weeks check up after my daughter was born in April of 08′. I bled for 7 months straight from heavy to that annoying lite last day of your period. My doctor put me on .5mg of estrogen TWICE, I have not had any bleeding for approx 2 weeks now, however, if I start bleed anytime within the next 3 months, I am having this thing taken out. I also noticed as Kylie did, the appearance and feeling of being pregnant, I took home pregnancy tests 4 times throughout the 7 months b/c I was sure I was pregnant. Finally, I didn’t notice odor b/c I was always bleeding and I chalked it up to that. But since I’ve stopped bleeding I still have an odor as if I am, as soon as I sit down and before I go the odor hits me. Luckily it takes a couple of hours to come up so as long as I take a shower right before I have sex, my husband doesn’t notice. I did experience panic attacks the first 3 months but I don’t know if that was b/c of the Implanon or because I had to kids under the age of 2 :-).
Hi, I’ve had implanon for 7 months. About a month ago I started feeling really ill, I felt sick all the time, had terrible migraines, Back pain, acne, Depression, mood swings… The list is extensive!! I haven’t bled in all the time I’ve had it but am worried due to reports of women starting 3 months(!!!) non stop bleeding after 6 months to a year! Before I had implanon, I had M.E, Epilepsy (uncontrolled), depression and back problems, now all of these things are a whole lot worse! I need your help, should I persevere with implanon or have it removed?? Thanks!
I haven’t had my implant for long but i can tell that it is changing the way i am. I always have a head ache and i feel depressed a lot and my moods changed so fast. I have never had a problem with getting angry or depression until implanon. I plan on getting it taken out and getting a new birth control.
I got mine @ the end of June 07. At first I bleed for 2 wks every month for almost 6-7 months. Then I started having it just 1 wk a month and now I bleed 3 days and spot for 2. I have gained weight and not sure to get it took out or not. Other than that I don’t have any problems cause my other problems I had before I even had kids.
Hey I have had many problems also while on the implanaon. I have had it for 3 months now, and it made me a mess. I have such bad mood swings and get sad really easily. All of this has almsot ruined my relationship with my Boyfriend of 2yrs. I haven’t had the odor problem or the bleeding for a long period of time but I have had this really weird discharge that is really annoying. Its a dark brown and sometimes has a little blood in it. I too was worried I was pregnant from having preganant like symptoms, but now I guess it’s just this stupid BC. =)
hi, I’ve had the implant for almost a year. Ive always been an emotional person, but a few months after I had it I was refered to councelling for severe depression. I failed my A levels and lost my bf because of it. I spot bled for the 1st 4 months then it was full on heavy blleding up until last week. I was put on different drugs to stop the bleeding, though nothing worked. I’m now on cerazette as well. Its worth mentioning I have put on 2 stone due to depression and the implant, however I don’t want to risk taking it out as things seem to be stablising now
and ihave idiopathic generalized epilepsy too, and don’t want another emotional Imbalance to prevent me driving soon.
i had the implanon inserted january 2008 (at my 6 weeks check up after having my second son). It stopped my periods in june 2008. In december i found out i was 21 weeks pregnant. which means i got pregnant in august. i had a pregnancy test in sept, oct, and november and they all came back negative. my obgyn has been trying to take out the implant since december. they havent been able to locate it.
next week i am having a blood test to see if it is actually inside. I didnt want anymore children. In fact i was waiting until i turned 25 (which was 3 days ago) to have a tubaligation. I am concerned about the effects the implant could have on my unborn child.
I can not find anything on the internet to tell me. but i see a strict warning about making sure you are not pregnant beofre insertion (this concerns me). why such a strict warning if it isnt harmful to babies?
I got mine at my 6 wk post partum check up, Oct. 2007. I have had almost every awful side effect. I had headaches, serious weight gain, mood swings, clumps of hair falling out and hot flashes. I had my throid checked and few other blood tests and they all came out normal. I bled non stop for the first month or so and now I have only had my period 2X in a year, usually for 2 weels straight. I also felt pregnant a lot and have taken MANY preg tests. The kicker is that I had nursed my daughter for two months and then I have been going to the gym 6-7 days a week, walking/running 3 miles a day and have cut my calories down to 1400 and I have only lost 3.3 pounds, IN 4 MONTHS. So to make a long story short or vice versa:) I’m getting this thing out today at 2:20.
Implanon removed. 4lbs lost already. Doc said I had devoloped “metabolic resistance” a side effect from the Implanon. It’s is the “inability to lose weight” and it’s listed right on the Implanon brochure. I’m glad it’s out of my arm and I can get on with my life.
I had implanon for about 2 years now. I always have a periods on time never been late and no bad side effects..Now I was suppose to get my period on 1/15/09 never came… I have mood swing, my breast are tender and alway sleepy ,hungry, have lower back pain also cramping ..took three home pregnancy test came out negative..still flet the same way so went to the doctors .. he gave me the same test i would take at home and it still came out negative ..then i did blood work and im just wait for the result to come back …I talk to some one that she couldn’t get a positive test until she took out implanon..
My doctor gave me a special blood test and sent it to Norway where they make the implanon. They are testing to see if the synthetic progesterone is in my blood. If so i will have to have a MRI after I have the baby to locate the implant. If i dont have it in me.. i wonder if i could file a wrongful birth case or something like that.
I’ve had the Implanon for a month. I got my period last night and I feel great in that respect. Everything’s fine. My bleeding is lighter than normal, nothing is different “down there” or in my head (no mood swings, depression, etc). The only thing that’s happened is that my vision has gone to total shit. A side effect of the Implanon is that it CAN alter your vision. Lucky me, huh? Although I think I’m okay with just grabbing some glasses. It’s been perfect otherwise.
WEll today i got the results from the blood test they gave me. The implanon injection sent from the company did not have the implant in it. I never had the impolanon implant, and that is why I ended up pregnant.
We thought It was in me… they charged my insurance for it, and it turns out i was never on birth control. Now just an unwanted pregnancy.
I had my implanon removed on Jan 22nd while on my period due to massive weight gain, depression, and terrible mood swings that made me a total mess. Also my husband and I are trying for another child. Like I said I was on my period when I had it removed, my last period started 1/18/09 and I have not had one since. We are trying to conceive and I have taken 2 HPT at one week and two weeks late, both negatives. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue and whether they turned out being pregnant or not. I had some like spotting brownish discharge(not even enough for a pad) around 2/10/09 which would be about 10 days past when I should have ovulated. What is going on with me????
Hi All, I am SO glad that I have stumbled across this forum. I’ve had my implant in for about 3 months now, but it really is turning me crazy!! My mind is all over the place, I’m suffering with anxiety, I feel like I’m panicing all the time. My personality has changed due to the anxiety I am feeling. I’m getting pains in my ovaries,my lower belly, my back and lower back, my chest and even my lungs (at times). I fell sick, my vision has gone bad, my head hurts, I think I really have recieved the worst. Reading other forums I know that all of these symptoms are related with implanon, but what really upset’s me is the fact that the doctor’s only tell you about the most common side effects, so I didn’t expect to get so many off putting side effects. The only thing I am worried about is going back to the doctor’s to ask them to remove it as I have only had it in for 3 months, but I just feel that I can not take it no more, these three months have been the worst three months I have experienced in the whole of my life. It is effecting my relationship with my husband and I just feel like my mind is all over the place. Does anyone think that my doctor will say no to removing the implant so soon? I look foward to hearing from someone soon!!
Hey Rehanna… I think you should def get it out. I had those same things but never put it together that it was from the implanon, my husband agreed I changed so much. I had such problems sleeping because of the anxiety. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions, Kitty01311984@aol.com
But I would def have it taken out and if you dr wont take it out, find one that will. I had one dr put it in, then I moved, and my new dr had no problem taking it out, although i had mine in for over a year. Good luck!
Thanks Kitty,
I have now booked an appointment with my doctor to get it removed, but as I say I’m just scared that I’m going to go there and she’s going to say that she won’t take it out. I’m going to email you, as sometimes it’s just good to get advice from someone else. Thanks for your support. R
hi, i’m so glad I’ve found this forum. It wasn’t until recently I have started to realise my lack of sex drive, mood swings, no motivation and feeling blue all the time is due to the implant. I got it fitted last june and since then I have never felt the same. I thought it would get better and wanted to keep it of ease (no remembering to take the pill everyday, no condoms with partner etc) I have always been very lively and outgoing now I don’t even want to get up in the morning. Im now in my last year at uni and my marks have really deteriorated, just cant be bothered with anything! will definitely make an appointment asap to get it taken it out. Thankyou everyone who has wrote on here otherwise I would of thought I was going crazy for no reason!
I have had my implanon since Aug 08 I have had it scheduled to come out next week due to the following reasons. I haven’t had that much hair loss but I have had 14lb wieght increase with my normal eating habits, headaches, no will power, I snap at anything and everything, i have had 7!!! 1 week periods that were heavy Since Jan 24. I hate this thing. It does work for the purpose but I can see why now..Definitely do not recommend this to anyone unless you really just don’t care.
I’m on my second Implanon right now which I had inserted as the first one expired in Jan. . The first year and a half of my first implant was ok, but the second year and a half I started developing the most appalling headaches. These’d go on for days at a time, I started to worry about my poor liver because of all the painkillers I took (even Migraleve was like popping Smarties), it got so bad I’d keep my palms pressed to my forehead coz I was afraid my head would swell and burst with the pressure. My good friend recommended a herbal remedy called Feverfew, and despite not being a big believer in herbal remedies I gave them a try - best move I ever made. If you only suffer from the headaches, girls, get yourselves some Feverfew. But now I’m on my second implant and the side-effects are so much worse this time, I can identify with every single girl here. But the real killer is my sex drive, or lack of one. It defeats the purpose of having a contraceptive if it puts you off having sex. I powered through the first implant coz it cost alot of money to put there, but this one’s killing me. But I’m so determined not to have children that if I come off this, I’ll probably be terrified to trust condoms & I’ll never have sex again anyway! It sucks to be a chick. With the success of Feverfew, I thought I’d try a natural aphrodisiac, Damiana, and Muira Puama, but they make me feel dizzy & ill, like I have flu. I can’t win. I’m at my wits’ end here.
I had my implanon in for about 11 months. I bled for two months straight, then didn’t get my period the rest of the 9 months I had it in. Constantly had cramps, and felt nauseous. Finally got it out few weeks ago and feel SO much better. Implanon isn’t healthy for you at all. Backs your period up and makes it irregular. If your thinking about getting it in change your mind!
hey,i had my implanon for about a year now and i am staring not to like it,i have massive mood swings my period comes and goes when ever it wants my stomach is staring to swell and its making me nauesaious, i know thats spelled wrong, and i am staring to see weight gain someone out there help me should i get it removed.
I have had my implanon in for about a year and since then I have dropped out of school, going through separation with my husband and just lost my job for fighting with another female! Things I would never have done I have. It feels as though I am suffering from bi-polar disorder but now that I see all these other comments I feel much more normal. I haven’t had any spotting up until the last month exactly on my daughters first birthday! The Dr. said its normal but it’s a giant pain lingering around…Not sure what I’m going to do yet but good luck to all!
OMG ive had my implanon since last year august and i love it on the sex wise but other then that i hate it im never off of my period and it lasts for about 3 months straight now. I hate it now but not quite ready to take it out.Going to see a doctor my periods arent cramps or anything just bleeding
I just had mine put in in February. I’ve already been experiencing mood swings and have been dealing with this freaky brown discharge for two days. I had no idea that this forum existed but had I seen it beforehand I would have never gone through with this. They didn’t tell me anything about feeling like i’m on my period (cramps, bloating, fatigue, irritability) half the time or that it would affect my sex drive. I’ll have it removed if things get much worse.
Hiya
Getting mineout next week had it a year and my sight is very poor with massive headaches like 2 other ladies above. Im sure its related. Also Drs did not take it out eventhough I had a stroke about a week after haveing it fitted. I am scared I have done permanent damage to myself. Its just not worth it girls
I had my implanon put in about two weeks ago, and a day or two after I started feeling really dizzy. Over the past week its got really bad, I keep falling over, walking into things. I have lost my balance completely. Thus meaning I can’t drive. I keep dropping things at work.
Apart from this, I heard about the risk of putting on weight, so I’ve started eating healthier, only for me to gain 5lbs in 2 weeks…
I don’t want sex at all. And before the implant I used to want it 4-5 times a day.
I really want this out of my arm, as I am practically unable to carry on with my job, and with my mood swings I can tell this is going to ruin my relationship with my bf…
Do you think I’ll be able to find a dr who can remove it this soon?
Rehanna: I might be alittle late in responding but I had implanon in for a grand total of ONE month. Yes my doctor was mad and she didnt want to take it out but i literally wasnt leavingwithout that thing out of my arm. Ive been through alot of shit in life and honestly having implanon was the WORST decision i have ever made. It made me absolutely crazy plus i just got done losing my baby weight and i told my doc i didnt want anything that had extreme weight gain side effects. she assured me implanon had NONE. I started to gain weight after about 3 weeks. But if you havent already get that thing out of your arm!!!! no matter what they say its your life take control of it. you know whats right and wrong for your body.
I’ve had mine for about 1 1/2 years. Was starting to think I had lupus or something but turns out my progesterone levels are really low, estrogen low, and testosterone high! I’ve determined to make lifestyle changes for a year (if I can go that long) before having it out or trying other meds to treat the other stuff going on.
I’m constantly bloated, definitely had the hair loss in the first month or so after insertion, and everything else has been chalked up to the depression and anxity I was already being treated for.
All our systems are so connected it’s hard to tell where one thing ends and another one starts sometimes!
