My mother suffered extreme side effects with 3 hospital stays. She was given it by Dr.
Veloso to help her memory and got every side effect-constipation, shakiness, tiredness, loss of appetite, and muscle stiffness so bad she could not get out of a chair or out of her bed after only 1 month on the drug. She has been off it for 5 months and all the side effects stayed! She has to have help with her mobility now. The drug should be destroyed.

Thanks for your comments Jacqueline. My dad was put on Exelon a couple of months ago. We were devastated when he started wandering around at midnight and didn’t know who we were - amnesia, severe confusion - call it what you like. We had hoped this drug would prevent or slow us going down this route - and instead the drug took us to where we didn’t want to go in a hurry! So we took him off it. His consultant left, a new one arrived - and again wanted to try him on it - just to confirm … we were reluctant but thought we had to go along with the guy to knock it on the head one way or the other. My Dad does appear to be more lucid and alert - for longer periods - but still doesn’t know who i am late at night which is upsetting. He does seem to have acquired an overactive bladder which is very upsetting for this proud, meticulous man. My Mum is 83 - I worry about all the washign she’s going to have to do when I go (am on career break at mo)we are big tea drinkers here and with colds all around we have been going heavy on the lemon and ginger late at night so maybe that hasn’t helped.

I do thank you for your comments cos all the other websites are just a bit too happy clappy glowing about exelon - don’t mind side effects as long as you know what you are getting into and not find out by accident. My dad does appear to be mroe stiff - but is that ageing - the combination of other drugs - who knows — we’ll see what happens. I wish you the best with your Mum . I hear aricept is an alternative? And blueberries are the latest great brain food if you believe what you read.
