Allergic to novocaine. Given carbocaine by dentist despite protest and asking for lidocaine – which was safe. Second injection of carbocaine resulted in tasting it and swallowing it. An hour later, had effects that I thought were the result of an allergic reaction. (drowsiness, then heaviness in arms and shoulders, later a burning mouth and throat). One month later, annual EKG showed a marked change. Referred Sent to cardilogist the same day, stress tests, etc. and had open heart surgery one week later. No previous symptoms of heart problems.
