Rifampin Side Effects Report #5011823-2
Rifampin side effect was reported by a Consumer or non-health professional from UNITED STATES on Mar 20, 2006. Male patient, 55 years of age, was diagnosed with tuberculosis  and was treated with Rifampin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal pain , alanine aminotransferase increased, ascites, aspartate aminotransferase increased, hepatic failure, hepatic necrosis, jaundice , pulmonary oedema. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with PYRAZINAMIDE, TYLENOL, IBUPROFEN, PROZAC, TUSSIN. Patient died.

After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: alanine aminotransferase increased, anorexia, aspartate aminotransferase increased, blood alkaline phosphatase increased, blood bilirubin increased, fatigue, hepatic failure, hepatic necrosis, nausea . Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with PYRAZINAMIDE, NIFEDIPINE, HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE, ECOTRIN. Patient died.

After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal discomfort, alanine aminotransferase increased, aspartate aminotransferase increased, blood alkaline phosphatase increased, blood bilirubin increased, hepatic failure, nausea , yellow skin. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with PYRAZINAMIDE. Patient died.

After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal pain , alanine aminotransferase increased, aspartate aminotransferase increased, blood bilirubin increased, hepatic failure, international normalised ratio increased, nausea , ocular icterus. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with PYRAZINAMIDE. Patient died on 08/19/2001.

Female patient, 55 years of age, weighting 198.4 lb, was diagnosed with tuberculin test positive, exposure to communicable disease and was treated with Rifampin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: anaphylactic shock, blood creatinine increased, chills, coagulation factor v level decreased, conjunctival hyperaemia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, erythema, hepatic failure, hypotension. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with RIFAMPIN AND ISONIAZID, RIFAMPIN AND ISONIAZID, RIFAMPIN AND ISONIAZID. Patient was hospitalized. Patient recovered.

After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: blood bilirubin increased, hepatic failure, hepatorenal syndrome, hepatotoxicity, icterus index increased, liver disorder, mesothelioma malignant, transaminases increased, vomiting. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with RIFAMPIN AND ISONIAZID, PYRIDOXINE, ALLOPUR, COZAAR. Patient died on 02/09/2006.

After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: asthenia, complications of transplanted liver, hepatic failure, incorrect dose administered, jaundice , liver disorder, liver transplant , oedema peripheral. Rifampin dosage: 300 MG TID PO. Patient died on 05/25/2006.
