Nitrofurantoin Side Effects Report #5623824-1
Nitrofurantoin side effect was reported by a Health Professional from UNITED STATES on Jan 28, 2008. Female patient was diagnosed with prophylaxis urinary tract infection and was treated with Nitrofurantoin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: biliary cirrhosis, hepatotoxicity, pulmonary toxicity, transaminases increased. Nitrofurantoin dosage: 50 MG; AT BEDTIME; ORAL. Patient was hospitalized. Patient died on 09/01/2007.

Female patient, 46 years of age, was diagnosed with neurogenic bladder, prophylaxis urinary tract infection and was treated with Nitrofurantoin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: hepatic cirrhosis, hepatotoxicity, interstitial lung disease, lung disorder, pneumothorax, pulmonary fibrosis , pulmonary toxicity, respiratory disorder, respiratory distress. Nitrofurantoin dosage: 50 MG; AT BEDTIME; ORAL, 100 MG; AT BEDTIME; ORAL. During the same period patient was treated with NORTRIPTYLINE, OXYBUTYNIN, ATENOLOL. Patient was hospitalized. Patient died on 11/04/2007.

Female patient, 50 years of age, was diagnosed with infection prophylaxis, urinary tract infection  and was treated with Nitrofurantoin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal pain upper, burning sensation, chest discomfort, chest pain , nausea , pneumonia , pulmonary toxicity. Nitrofurantoin dosage: 100 MG DAILY AT BEDTIME PO ( 8 DAYS AND THEN 1 DAY). During the same period patient was treated with NICOTINE LOZENGE, ESTRADIOL. Patient was hospitalized. Patient recovered.

Male patient, 73 years of age, was diagnosed with onychomycosis and was treated with Nitrofurantoin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: hepatotoxicity, pulmonary fibrosis , pulmonary oedema, pulmonary toxicity. Nitrofurantoin dosage: 50 MG, QD. During the same period patient was treated with FLUCONAZOLE, TERAZOSIN HYDROCHLORIDE, CIMETIDINE RPG, FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE, DIPHENHYDRAMINE, IBUPROFEN, FLUOCINONIDE, CENTRUM. Patient recovered.
