Demerol and cardio-respiratory arrest Patient Reports February 10, 2012

Demerol Side Effects Report #5011195-3
Demerol side effect was reported by a Pharmacist from UNITED STATES on May 23, 2006. Female patient, 66 years of age, was diagnosed with pain  and was treated with Demerol. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: cardiac enzymes increased, cardio-respiratory arrest, cholecystitis acute, encephalopathy, hypotension, lethargy, mental status changes, metabolic acidosis, metabolic encephalopathy. Demerol dosage: 75MG IV. During the same period patient was treated with PHENERGAN. Patient died on 10/27/2004.

Demerol side effect was reported by a Pharmacist from UNITED STATES on Dec 28, 2005. Male patient, weighting 254.0 lb, was diagnosed with pain  and was treated with Demerol. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: cardio-respiratory arrest. Demerol dosage: 30 MG EVERY 6' HOURS IV. During the same period patient was treated with DOPAMINE, TYLENOL, DIFLUCAN, VANCOMYCIN, COMBIVENT, BICARB. Patient was hospitalized. Patient died on 09/29/2005.

Male patient, weighting 156.0 lb, was diagnosed with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and was treated with Demerol. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: cardio-respiratory arrest, oxygen saturation decreased, procedural complication, rhonchi, tachycardia. Demerol dosage: 75MG ONCE IV. During the same period patient was treated with VERSED. Patient was hospitalized. Patient recovered.
